Without a plan, we are left reacting as each new event raises new issues. These can create new problems and possibly require urgent action. Often, this creates a crisis and great stress for families.
On the other hand, if there is an estate plan in place, many of the questions that might arise down the line have already been answered. Who do we need to contact? Where are the records that we need? Who has the legal authority to act? Instead of scrambling for solutions or information, families whose loved ones have a plan in place can focus on what matters most – taking care of each other. This often leads to lower stress, less acrimony and clear guidance so that our wishes are carried out and our needs are met. This is the entire point of estate planning.
